Anxiety

When children are anxious its very difficult for them to learn. They say things like I’m reading it but it just won’t go in, or that they cannot concentrate.

When anyone is anxious, they are stuck in a fight/flight or freeze state, neither of which is a good condition for learning. They are full of the stress hormone cortisol and often just want to retreat out of a learning situation.

If the learning is causing anxiety, then our tutors will support your child to feel safer when learning. This might involve helping your child organise their work into manageable chunks or helping your child find ways to break the learning task down into smaller chunks, rather than feel overwhelmed with the whole task.

If your child has general anxiety that is limiting their learning at school, we can support your child by tutoring them in a sensitive way at a pace that your child will be able to comprehend the material.
